The SafeWork NSW $1,000 Small Business Rebate is an ongoing claim-based program administered by SafeWork NSW, the workplace health and safety regulator within the NSW Government. The program has been continuously open since 1 October 2018 and provides a reimbursement of up to AUD 1,000 to eligible small businesses and not-for-profits that purchase qualifying workplace health and safety items. There is no fixed funding pool, no competitive assessment, and no annual deadline; claims are processed individually as they are submitted and approved.

To be eligible, the applicant must operate an Australian Business Number, have conducted business in New South Wales for at least six months, and employ between 0 and 50 full-time equivalent staff. Charities and not-for-profits with 1 to 50 FTE are eligible alongside for-profit businesses, while sole traders are also included. Government departments, voluntary associations, and subsidiaries of businesses with more than 50 employees are excluded. Applicants must complete a SafeWork NSW education activity within the 12 months prior to applying, and the safety items being claimed must have been purchased within 12 months of the application date. Payment of approved claims is issued within eight weeks.

A strict five-year cooldown applies: any business that received this rebate within the prior five years cannot apply again. The claim requires three types of documentation: proof of business eligibility (ABN registration and employee count), proof of SafeWork education completion, and purchase invoices with payment receipts for the eligible safety items. The rebate covers a wide range of workplace health and safety equipment and is deliberately designed as a low-barrier, continuous-access program to incentivize safety investment among NSW's smallest employers rather than as a competitive grant.

Workplace health and safety item purchases (equipment, safety gear, related items) for NSW small businesses with 0–50 FTE.
