Research and innovation projects that build a shared climate-risk picture for the EU's navigable inland waterways — roughly 42,000km of TEN-T rivers and canals across 25 Member States — and design real adaptation measures for the waterways, their surroundings, and related water infrastructure such as locks, embankments and flood defences. Projects build a common climate modelling framework, run a network-wide climate risk assessment covering mobility, supply chains, critical infrastructure and cross-border water use, cost both the adaptation measures and the cost of inaction, and pilot adaptation solutions on real waterways, with nature-based solutions prioritised. The two funded projects coordinate with each other and link into the Adaptation Mission's Implementation Platform.
