SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking

Transformation to trajectory-based operations

Funds industrial research building the flight-planning and network systems needed for trajectory-based air traffic operations.

ClosedSESAR 3 Joint UndertakingEU

Every beneficiary gets a flat 70% funding rate on this topic regardless of legal status -- unlike the usual Horizon Europe rule that pays universities and non-profit research organisations 100%, here everyone, including academic partners, is capped at 70%. Projects can run for up to 36 months. Winners must also link their work to two named 2022 SESAR calls (HORIZON-SESAR-2022-DES-IR-01 and HORIZON…

This call funds industrial research on trajectory-based operations (TBO) in European air traffic management, including FF-ICE flight-plan services, network trajectory synchronisation during flight execution, and integrating flight management systems, electronic flight bags and flight operations centres so aircraft and ground systems share one optimised trajectory. It also wants work on more dynamic application of route-availability restrictions, digitalised letters of agreement between air navigation service providers, and evolving military flight planning to work with the new trajectory data model. Proposals may go beyond the listed elements if justified against the European ATM Master Plan's priorities.
