Next generation ATS platforms for en-route and TMA operations

Funds industrial research building AI-enabled, cyber-resilient next-generation air traffic control platforms.

Scoring runs on three weighted criteria: Excellence and Impact each carry 40%, and Implementation carries the remaining 20%. Every applicant is invited to a hearing that can go either way — clarifying specific elements so the evaluation committee can finalise its score, or simply deepening its understanding — and whatever comes out of it can move the final score in the areas that needed clarifying

This call funds industrial research building the next generation of en-route and terminal-area air traffic control platforms, targeting automation level 4 and a trustworthy-AI approach across separation management, demand-capacity balancing, and human-machine teaming. It wants these platforms to be cyber-resilient (including post-quantum cryptography where appropriate), to cut aviation's climate impact through climate-optimised trajectories and green procedures, and to support integrated air/ground trajectory management. Consortia must design for the specific needs of military users, innovative air mobility and U-space alongside conventional civil traffic.
