SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking

Smart airports, airports as multimodal nodes and passenger experience

Funds research on smart, connected airports that integrate landside, network and multimodal transport data.

Evaluation weights three criteria: Excellence and Impact each count for 40%, and Implementation counts for 20%. The evaluation committee reviewing proposals may include internal experts from EU institutions and agencies, not just outside reviewers. Winning projects must link formally, through a collaboration agreement, specifically to two named 2022 SESAR calls, HORIZON-SESAR-2022-DES-IR-01 and HO

This call funds research making airports smarter and better connected, covering a lightweight airport operations centre for regional airports, shared performance monitoring across a group of smaller airports, and integrating passenger and baggage data with airside planning. It also wants work on airport environmental-performance dashboards, business intelligence and machine learning for resource planning, cybersecurity for increasingly virtualised airport systems, and linking airports into wider multimodal transport networks such as rail. A further strand covers safely integrating remotely piloted aircraft into existing instrument-flight-rules airport operations.
