Solar Data Bounty Prize
Paid U.S. solar system owners up to $130,000 in cash for sharing detailed PV performance data.
Stage 1 scoring runs on a Basic Score that the metadata template calculates automatically from the data an owner enters, and meeting every required condition is a separate precondition for a prize -- a strong score alone does not guarantee one. Across both tracks, the top 25 scorers move on to Stage 2, where reviewers from DOE and outside experts judge the full submitted dataset against four criteโฆ
The prize sought irradiance and performance timeseries data from owners of working photovoltaic systems, split into a small-to-medium track (100-5,000 kWDC) and a large-systems track (over 5,000 kWDC). It aimed to close the data gap holding back accurate modeling of how PV systems perform in the real world.
