Prevention and Population Programme Award

Funds UK cancer researchers up to £2.5m over five years for prevention and population studies.

Applicants must first hold an informal, confidential discussion with programme staff at least a month before the deadline, then submit an outline research proposal of up to 2,500 words through the Flexi-Grant portal; only shortlisted applicants are invited to submit a full application in the following funding round. The full application goes to an Expert Review Panel and a Patient and Public Revie

The award backs long-term programmes in cancer primary prevention and population research, spanning epidemiology, translational science, risk stratification, screening trials and policy-focused work. Eligible topics must have a clear line to clinical or population impact and address a specific cancer-related question, including work that extends an existing funded programme. Clinical trials, PhD studentships and behavioural or lifestyle intervention studies aimed at reducing cancer risk are all in scope.
