Funds the clinical validation of a cancer biomarker assay whose analytical performance has already been proven.
A cancer biomarker only becomes useful when someone shows the assay behaves the same way in real patient specimens, in more than one laboratory, on more than one occasion. The National Cancer Institute funds that step here, and only that step.

Clinical validation, over up to three years, of analytically validated molecular, cellular or imaging assays for cancer detection, diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, response prediction, prevention and control, including pharmacodynamic and toxicity markers, and cross-laboratory harmonisation, using specimens from retrospective or prospective studies.
