Funds basic research on how nerve agents, industrial chemicals and pesticides injure the nervous system, and where a countermeasure could interrupt it.
This is the National Institutes of Health arm of the government's chemical countermeasures work, and it pays for the science underneath a treatment rather than the treatment itself.

Basic research on the neurotoxic mechanisms of chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals and pesticides, including unrecognised manifestations of exposure and the identification of therapeutic targets for medical countermeasures. Clinical trials are not allowed.
