Some U.S. states have gotten a small share of NIH's research money for decades, and their hospitals and universities have thin clinical and translational research capacity as a result. This programme exists to fix that, one state at a time.

It funds two kinds of award under the same core mechanism. A Development-track award builds workforce and infrastructure inside a single health research organ…

Building clinical and translational research capacity in a historically under-funded U.S. state or multi-state region, either through workforce and infrastructure development at a single organisation or a coordinating statewide network; only one such award per state at a time, and organisations with an active Clinical and Translational Science Award cannot take part.
