Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), or FFG, is Austria's national funding agency for industrial research and development. It is wholly owned by the Republic of Austria, works under the federal ministries for innovation and economy, and was founded in 2004. The agency says it disburses about EUR 1 billion a year and has supported more than 60,000 companies, universities, research institutions, and organisations through more than 65,000 funded projects.

FFG funds, advises, and connects innovative companies, universities, and research institutions across fields from advanced manufacturing and robotics to space, quantum technology, life sciences and health, energy, mobility, and climate. Its portfolio includes Markt.Start, Bridge Programmes, the General Programme, Frontrunner, COMET, ASAP, the Diversity Cheque, the Eco-Cheque, and Austrian Life Sciences. Awards range from EUR 10,000 for the Diversity Cheque and EUR 12,000 for the Eco-Cheque to multimillion-euro support under the General Programme, Frontrunner, COMET, and Austrian Life Sciences.

The agency combines grant delivery with consulting and project review, and it also works as a service provider for other national and international bodies. That makes FFG a strong route for Austrian applicants that need both finance and a clear administrative path, especially when a project sits at the intersection of industrial R&D, cross-sector collaboration, and European or international partnerships. Its reach across 20 networks and its advisory capacity give it a broader role than a simple grant maker.
