Vetenskapsrådet (Swedish Research Council), often shortened to VR, is Sweden's principal public research funder. It operates as a government agency under the Ministry of Education and Research and distributes about 8 billion SEK a year across the sciences, humanities, social sciences, medicine, education, and artistic research.

The council funds both individual project grants and larger collaborative awards. The natural and engineering sciences project grant runs from 600,000 to 1.4 million SEK per year, and other routes in its lineup include the Excellence Clusters for Groundbreaking Technologies, the Centre of Excellence grant, the humanities and social sciences research environment grant, and support for international visiting researchers. Eligibility typically centers on doctoral-level researchers employed by an administrating organization in Sweden.

VR is also a national infrastructure and policy actor. It supports shared research systems and facilities, advises the government on research policy, and coordinates science communication through forskning.se. Applications move through Prisma, and peer review is handled through about 900 panelists across roughly 6,000 applications a year.
