Commercial Districts (Barrios Comerciales)
Supports Chilean merchant associations through SERCOTEC Barrios Comerciales assistance to strengthen commercial district competitiveness.
Barrios Comerciales 2026 is a SERCOTEC program providing non-reimbursable grants of up to CLP 80,000,000 to organized groups of neighborhood merchants to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of commercial districts across Chile. Funding is delivered across a three-stage, 36-month activity plan rather than as a lump sum. Eligible activities include commercial management support for individual member businesses, improvements to the urban and physical environment of the commercial zone, organizational capacity-building, and sustainable commercial development initiatives.
Applicants must be legally constituted organizations or formally mandated groups representing at least 15 commercial or service establishments. Member businesses within the group must hold primera categoría SII tax registration. The program requires a cash co-contribution from the applicant organization: 2–10% of the SERCOTEC financing in Stage 1 and 2–20% in Stage 2. Individual businesses cannot apply directly — the program is designed for collective action by merchant associations or equivalents. For-profit organizations in their own right are ineligible as direct applicants; the applicant entity must be the collective organization.
Calls are issued regionally by SERCOTEC. Applications are submitted through portal.sercotec.cl when a regional convocation is active. Evaluators assess the coherence of the three-year activity plan, the representativeness and legal standing of the applicant organization, and the feasibility of the proposed interventions in the target commercial district. Organizations with prior experience running collective commercial development initiatives and clear geographic boundaries for their commercial zone tend to present stronger applications.
Multi-year grant for organized Chilean merchant associations of at least fifteen businesses to improve commercial neighborhood competitiveness through management support, physical environment upgrades, and sustainable commercial development activities.
