Call for Projects CNRST / CNR Italy (Appel à Projets CNRST / CNR Italie)
Funds Morocco-Italy collaborative projects that strengthen joint scientific development to strengthen real-world implementation.
Eligibility · Morocco, Italy
The 2026 CNRST/CNR Italie bilateral research call is a joint program between Morocco's Centre National pour la Recherche Scientifique et Technique (CNRST) and Italy's Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), structured to fund collaborative research projects involving paired Moroccan and Italian academic teams. CNRST operates under Morocco's Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MESRSI) and is the principal coordinator of Morocco's international scientific cooperation agreements. The call targets nine thematic areas: artificial intelligence, agriculture and agrifood technologies, water and environment, information technologies, renewable energy, health, humanities and social sciences, materials science and technology, and natural resources. The submission portal is call.cnrst.ma and the deadline is 30 June 2026.
The Moroccan-side award is fixed at 100,000 MAD per project, disbursed in two equal tranches of 50,000 MAD over two years. Funding flows through a tripartite contract signed by the Moroccan lead researcher, the president of their host university, and CNRST. Eligible Moroccan institutions include public universities, public higher-education establishments outside the university system, public research bodies, PPP universities, and state-recognised private universities. For-profit companies and individual applicants are excluded on the Moroccan side. Italian-side funding is managed separately by CNR and does not create an additional financial obligation for the Moroccan team.
Bilateral pairing with an Italian CNR-affiliated team is mandatory — proposals without a confirmed Italian partner will not be considered. Applications are submitted electronically through the CNRST call portal. Questions should be directed to cooperation@cnrst.ma (Service Coopération et Partenariat CNRST). Moroccan applicants should confirm their Italian partner's CNR affiliation before the June 2026 deadline, as the two-year project duration and staggered tranche payment structure require an active tripartite agreement to be in place at award.
Bilateral Morocco–Italy joint research projects across AI, agriculture, water, environment, IT, renewable energy, health, social sciences, materials science, and natural resources, with 100,000 MAD Moroccan-side funding over two years.
