Complement-ARIE NAMs Reduction to Practice Challenge

Awards up to $7,000,000 in cash prizes to teams building lab-based alternatives to animal testing.

ClosedNational Institutes of HealthUnited States

Phase 1 proposals are scored against five weighted criteria out of 100 points total: Significance/Impact (15), Innovation (10), Team (15), Feasibility and Preliminary Data (25), and Approach (35), after a preliminary screen for eligibility and completeness; a federal Judging Panel then selects winners subject to sign-off from the Award Approving Official, and evaluation results are never shared wiโ€ฆ

This NIH Common Fund challenge, run with FDA and EPA input, is looking for combinatorial 'new approach methodologies' (NAMs) that combine cell/tissue/organoid, computational, and biochemical techniques to complement or replace animal models in biomedical research and regulatory testing. Priority areas include chronic-disease modeling, neurobiological and personalized-medicine models, cross-disease platforms, toxicology and safety testing, and human health protection studies, though solvers aren't limited to these areas.
