M-ERA.NET 3 is a large European ERA-NET Cofund initiative coordinating transnational research on advanced materials and battery technologies, with participation spanning 49 countries and explicit alignment to the objectives of the European Green Deal. UEFISCDI provides EUR 1,000,000 in Romanian national co-funding for the 2026 call, distributing those funds among Romanian partners in internationally evaluated winning consortia. Priority research themes include energy storage and conversion materials, functional coatings, electronic and magnetic materials, and materials that address environmental challenges. The final proposal deadline is November 18, 2026.
Consortia must include a minimum of three applicants drawn from at least three different participating countries. A single applicant cannot account for more than 60 percent of total project person-months, and a single country's effort is capped at 70 percent of total person-months. Maximum project duration is 36 months. Eligible Romanian participants include universities, research institutes, SMEs, and large enterprises. Individual project budgets for Romanian partners are subject to national eligibility rules administered by UEFISCDI.
M-ERA.NET 3 is the principal European channel for Romanian materials researchers and industrial partners seeking co-funded access to a pan-European research network. Organizations strongest positioned to win are those that can demonstrate prior materials research outputs and already maintain collaborative relationships with partner institutions in other participating countries. Romanian applicants should use the M-ERA.NET partner search tool to identify consortium leads early, as assembling a compliant multi-country team is the primary technical prerequisite before drafting any proposal sections.
