This capital grant supports local authorities to create or expand school-based nursery provision through multi-year proposals. Projects can create new space or repurpose existing space, with the aim of increasing childcare places.

In scope are projects that create or expand school-based nursery provision and result in a net increase in childcare places. Eligible project settings are an SBN on a state-funded primary-phase school site in England that already offers early education, part of a maintained nursery school site in England, or part of a Best Start Family Hub site. Special Schools, Alternative Provision and Pupil Referral Units are not eligible for phase 3. The grant cannot reimburse expenditure incurred before funding is awarded.
