HTA Researcher-led: primary research
Funds UK primary research testing the value of any health technology not already covered.
Outline applications are capped at five A4 pages for the research plan, with anything beyond that not reviewed by the committee. Applicants are expected to frame their main research question in PICO terms — population, intervention, comparator, outcome — and to show the technology is ready for evaluation using a published evidence synthesis such as a systematic review, or, if none exists, their ow…
The HTA Programme invites primary-research proposals on any health problem not already well covered in its existing portfolio, rather than responding to a fixed research question. Applicants pick their own topic, comparator and outcome measures, but stand-alone feasibility or pilot studies are not eligible on their own. Highlight notices such as traumatic brain injury are welcomed but not required.
