The HTA Programme wants a study exploring the potential benefits and harms of reconstructive surgery for survivors of female genital mutilation/cutting, alongside the role of psychosexual counselling for women considering that surgery. This responds to a specific evidence gap: NHS England currently offers deinfibulation but not clitoral reconstruction or similar procedures, due to a lack of high-quality trial evidence.
