Reducing central line-associated bloodstream infections in neonates
Funds a UK trial comparing interventions to cut bloodstream infections from neonatal lines.
NIHR's Health Technology Assessment Programme runs this as a two-stage commissioned call: an outline application is assessed first, and only shortlisted applicants are invited to submit a full application, which the HTA funding committee then decides on. This is a focused opportunity -- NIHR intends to fund a single study from the whole call, not a portfolio of related projects. The outline stage …
The HTA Programme wants a commissioned trial comparing ways to cut the rate of catheter-related bloodstream infections in newborns fitted with a central line, including PICC lines. Applicants define and justify their own intervention, comparator against standard local care, and outcome measures able to distinguish a true infection from sample contamination. The programme is especially interested in addressing wide variation in current infection-prevention bundles across neonatal units.
