Funds processing NASA satellite data into water-surface maps for hydrologists managing rivers and lakes.
Most of the country's rivers, lakes and reservoirs are only measured at a few thousand fixed points. A NASA satellite mission called SWOT can now see water-surface elevation almost everywhere, and this money is about turning that raw satellite signal into something a water manager can actually use.
The work is processing and analysing SWOT data β extracting water-surface elevations from the satelβ¦
Processing and analysing data from NASA's Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite mission to produce water-surface elevation maps at a finer scale than existing gauges allow, done through a Rocky Mountain CESU partnership with USGS's Observing Systems Division. Covers accuracy assessment of the SWOT data itself and building low-latency monitoring data streams from it.
