Utilizing the PLCO Biospecimens Resource to Bridge Gaps in Cancer Etiology and Early Detection Research

Funds research using a screening trial's biorepository — serial blood samples collected before diagnosis, with decades of matched participant data.

The hardest sample to get in cancer research is blood from someone who does not yet have cancer but is about to. This notice hands researchers a collection of exactly that.

The resource is the biorepository from a large National Cancer Institute screening trial covering prostate, lung, colorectal and ovarian cancer. What it holds is unusual in two ways: high-quality, prospectively collected, **se

Research in cancer aetiology and early detection biomarkers using a screening trial biorepository of prospectively collected serial pre-diagnostic blood samples from screened-arm participants and buccal cells from control-arm participants, with matched demographic, diet, lifestyle, smoking, screening and clinical data, including biochemical and genetic analyses of cancer risk and biomarker discovery and validation. Clinical trials are not allowed.
