Funds expanding or sustaining an existing biomedical research center, capped by how many such centers an institution already holds.
This is the other half of the IDeA pipeline. Where the Development Phase builds a center from nothing, this notice is for an institution that already has one running and now needs to grow it or keep it going.

Expansion and sustainability funding for existing Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence in IDeA-eligible states — growing the institutional faculty base and research cores, or consolidating and sustaining them — restricted to institutions holding three or fewer active COBRE awards at time of application. Clinical trials are not allowed.
