SOFWERX is the innovation hub operated by DEFENSEWERX (Doolittle Institute dba DEFENSEWERX, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) under a Partnership Intermediary Agreement with the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), established in September 2015. It connects industry, academia, national laboratories, and government to accelerate solutions for Special Operations Forces challenges. SOFWERX runs Capability Collaboration Events (CCE), Assessment Events (AE), SBIR/STTR topic releases, and rolling Tech Tuesday showcases — all sponsored by USSOCOM components such as PEO SOFSA, PEO-SW, JATF, and J2. Awards flow through PIA, OTA (10 U.S.C. §§ 4021-4023), CRADA (15 U.S.C. § 3710a), prize competitions, or FAR-based procurement contracts, not traditional grants.
