Mitacs Elevate is a postdoctoral fellowship program that places PhD-level researchers at Canadian partner organisations for one to two years, combining applied research with a structured professional development curriculum. The program operates on a rolling year-round intake with no fixed application deadline; proposals go through a two-stage review comprising administrative eligibility screening followed by external peer assessment.

The total award is CAD $60,000 per year (CAD $120,000 for two-year projects). The fellow receives a minimum stipend of CAD $55,000 per year and up to CAD $5,000 per year is available for research costs. The partner organisation is required to contribute CAD $30,000 per year. Fellows additionally receive access to a professional development curriculum valued at CAD $7,500 per year on a non-cash basis. A postdoctoral fellow may combine Elevate and Mitacs Accelerate funding for a combined total of up to nine internship units.

To be eligible, the fellow must hold a completed PhD degree and hold postdoctoral status at a Canadian academic institution, with full-time commitment required (part-time arrangements are permitted under specific conditions). The fellow must spend a minimum of 50% of their time on-site at the partner organisation. Eligible partner organisations include Canadian-incorporated entities that are end users of the research: for-profit corporations and Crown corporations receiving no more than 50% of revenues from government sources, or not-for-profit organisations, hospitals, and municipalities. Government departments, academic institutions, Indigenous governments, and foreign companies are not eligible as partners.

Postdoctoral research fellowships co-funded with Canadian industry partners, supporting fellows spending at least 50% of their time on-site at the partner organisation.
