This call funds research into scalable, high-efficiency materials and reactors for direct solar hydrogen production, through thermochemical cycles or photoelectrochemical/photocatalytic water splitting. Proposals should move past proof-of-concept by discovering more efficient, cost-effective catalysts and redox materials, and by demonstrating a clear scale-up strategy for reactors.
