Funds an innovation project that demonstrates a grid-connected reversible solid oxide cell system for local hydrogen production and power.
The grant covers the capital costs of building the system -- the stacks, balance of plant, gas handling, and even the cost of connecting to the grid -- but it will not cover the ongoing operating costs, meaning the electricity, gas or hydrogen consumed once the system is running in demonstration or business mode. This call funds a demonstration of Reversible Solid Oxide Cell (rSOC) technology operating at megawatt scale, producing hydrogen in electrolysis mode and consuming it to generate electricity in fuel cell mode, to help balance the power grid as more renewable energy comes online. Proposals should validate the system's performance, reliability and economics in real-world grid-connected conditions, including heat recovery.
