Lithuania–Taiwan Joint Research Projects
Funds Paired Lithuanian Taiwanese bilateral research grants through the Lithuania Taiwan Joint Research Projects.
The Lithuania–Taiwan Joint Research Projects programme is a bilateral funding scheme administered by the Research Council of Lithuania (LMT) and Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), established under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 22 September 2023. The programme funds paired joint scientific projects between Lithuanian and Taiwanese research teams, with both partners submitting applications simultaneously through their respective national agencies. The Lithuanian side may receive up to €200,000 for a two-year project, with eligible costs including research expenses, project dissemination activities, implementation costs, and partner visits to Taiwan.
Only research and study institutions registered in Lithuania may apply on the Lithuanian side; commercial companies and individuals are not eligible. A confirmed Taiwanese partner institution applying through NSTC at the same time is a hard eligibility prerequisite. Calls are announced annually. The 2026 call, covering continuation projects, was announced on 27 April 2026; exact deadlines had not been published at the time of the May 2026 research fetch. The 2025 cycle provides a reference timeline: the call opened in Q1 2025, the application deadline fell in March 2025, assessment ran April through July 2025, project announcements were made in September 2025, and projects started 1 October 2025.
Lithuanian applicants should contact programme officer Miglė Palujanskaitė (migle.palujanskaite@lmt.lt) and apply through the LMTSIS portal once the 2026 deadline is published. Because paired applications must be filed simultaneously in both Lithuania and Taiwan, coordinating the application timeline with the Taiwanese partner well in advance of the deadline is critical. Research teams in natural sciences, technology, materials, energy, cybersecurity, and biomedical fields with existing or prospective Taiwanese institutional collaborators are best positioned for this bilateral call.
Bilateral joint research grants with Taiwan's NSTC, providing up to €200,000 to the Lithuanian partner for two-year projects across all scientific disciplines requiring a paired Taiwanese co-applicant.
