Researcher Groups Projects
Supports research grants for Lithuanian academic research teams and groups through the Researcher Groups Projects.
The Research Council of Lithuania (Lietuvos mokslo taryba, LMT) Researcher Groups Projects programme is the flagship competitive bottom-up grant mechanism for Lithuanian academic and research institutions. The programme funds research projects proposed by principal investigators and researcher groups working at universities and research organisations registered in Lithuania; commercial companies and individuals are not eligible. Applications are submitted through the LMT information system (LMTSIS) when a call is announced, with specific budgets and deadlines published at the time of each annual call announcement rather than at the programme level.
Proposals are evaluated by two expert panels: one covering humanities and social sciences, and the other covering natural sciences, technology, medical and health sciences, and agricultural sciences. Each panel includes both Lithuanian and international expert reviewers. Selection focuses on the significance, innovativeness, and novelty of the proposed research. The programme is governed by the General Rules of the Research Council of Lithuania for the Competitive Funding of Research and Dissemination Projects (current version dated 12 June 2024) and the Description of the Procedure of Expert Evaluation of Projects and their Reports. The programme page was last updated 15 April 2026, confirming the 2026 cycle is active.
Eligible costs and award amounts are determined per call; the 2026 call details are available through LMTSIS and the LMT website. Contacts for the humanities and social sciences panel are Inga Grigaliūnienė and Jolanta Paunksnienė; contacts for natural and technical sciences are Aistė Bučiūnė and Rasa Rimeisytė. Researcher groups preparing applications should review the published expert evaluation form to understand scoring weights and structure proposals around significance and novelty, as these are the primary selection criteria under the programme governance rules.
Competitive bottom-up research grants for Lithuanian academic institutions and research organisations across all scientific disciplines, evaluated by expert panels in humanities/social sciences or natural/technical/medical sciences.
