Rail4Climate 2026 is a Forschung/Technologie/Innovation (FTI) program administered by the Klima- und Energiefonds focused on rail-sector digitalization and automation research in Austria. The program targets productivity and capacity improvements in the railway sector and supports a broader shift toward decarbonized mobility. The call carries a €2 million budget for the 2026 window, which runs from April 14, 2026 (09:00) through September 16, 2026 (12:00). Eligible applicants include research organizations, businesses, and other entities operating in Austria; municipalities are not listed as a target audience.

Rail4Climate is aligned to Austria's Industriestrategie 2035, specifically addressing one of its nine key technology areas — Mobilitätstechnologien — through the FTI für Bahnindustrie measure. The program is an FTI-type instrument focused on R&D activities, not deployment subsidies. As an FTI program, it expects proposed work to involve genuine research or technology development rather than straightforward installation or demonstration.
