R&D Projects
Funds Brussels companies doing industrial research, experimental development, or process innovation through grants covering 15 to 70 percent of project costs.
Eligibility · Brussels-Capital Region, Belgium
R&D Projects is the main R&D grant program of Innoviris, the Brussels-Capital Region's public innovation agency. It provides financial support to Brussels companies developing, completing, or implementing innovative products, processes, or services. The program covers three categories: industrial research (acquiring scientific knowledge toward an industrial or commercial goal, resulting in a proof of business or prototype), experimental development (developing an innovative product, process, or service with remaining technical uncertainties, resulting in a prototype tested in a real environment), and organisation and process innovation (implementing a new process or production/delivery method at company scale).
The program funds 15% to 70% of eligible costs, with the exact percentage depending on technical and commercial factors. The grant can be awarded as a direct grant or as a repayable advance. Applications are submitted on a rolling basis at any time of year using the official form.
To be eligible, a company must develop all or part of its activities in the Brussels-Capital Region, must not be in financial difficulty per European legislation, must have an R&D project for an innovative product, process, or service, and must demonstrate ability to finance its own share. The Research2B platform helps applicants find Brussels-based research expertise for collaboration.
Note: Innoviris announced on 24 March 2026 that no new projects can be funded in 2026 due to budget constraints. All programs are suspended; existing projects continue under signed agreements. Applications submitted before the suspension remain in process and may be funded in 2027 pending available resources.
Industrial research, experimental development, and organisation/process innovation for Brussels-based companies across any sector. Formerly the Explore, Shape, and Upgrade programs.
