IDAE (Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía) launched a EUR 202.5 million grant call for innovative renewable energy technologies and energy storage under the final phase of Spain's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR). The application window ran from 14 January 2026 to 19 February 2026 — a five-week competitive sprint timed to meet the PRTR deployment deadline of August 2026. This was a one-off, non-repeating call under the PRTR final phase and is now closed to new applications.
Eligible applicants included for-profit companies, non-profit organizations, universities, and research institutions registered and operating in Spain. The focus areas were innovative — rather than conventional — renewable energy technologies and energy storage systems, targeting novel approaches beyond standard commercial deployment. Per-project award amounts, scoring criteria, and specific technology eligibility were defined in the formal call documentation published by IDAE in January 2026. Projects awarded under this call must be deployed and expenditures verified before the August 2026 PRTR deadline.
Although the call is closed, applicants who submitted proposals by 19 February 2026 are awaiting IDAE evaluation decisions. Organizations that missed this window should monitor IDAE and MITECO for any follow-on instruments, noting that the EUR 750 million renewable manufacturing successor scheme — announced separately — focuses on equipment production rather than innovative deployment and represents a distinct funding stream.
