Understanding how infections foster and induce non-communicable diseases

Funds one project mining research cohorts and biobanks to find causal links between infections and non-communicable diseases, aimed at new vaccines, diagnostics and early treatments.

Legal entities established in the UK and Canada are explicitly NOT eligible to receive funding on this specific topic, the opposite of the funding exception on the sibling brain-dysfunction topic in the same call. The short first-stage proposal is capped at 20 pages, and the full second-stage proposal is capped at 50 pages. Consortia must meet the IHI's own additional eligibility criteria, includi…

This topic wants a systematic, multi-omics and AI-driven mining of existing cohorts and biobanks to identify causal links and biological mechanisms connecting infectious agents to non-communicable diseases such as Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease and cancer. It's aimed at generating vaccine strategies, earlier diagnostics and early-intervention therapeutics from those links, not just documenting associations.
