Integration of control & monitoring tools and strategies for improved Fuel Cell System durability & reliability
Funds research into control and monitoring tools that extend the lifetime and reliability of hydrogen fuel cell systems.
This is a Research and Innovation Action run by the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, evaluated in a single-stage submission round. The JU has set a maximum contribution of EUR 4,000,000 for this topic and expects to fund one project, paid as a fixed lump sum under Horizon Europe's simplified-costs rules — the same approach used across every topic in the Call 2026. Whatever work a beneficiary subc…
Proposals must develop, integrate and validate online monitoring and control algorithms that predict and mitigate degradation, faults and failures in fuel cell systems, focusing on Balance-of-Plant components rather than the fuel cell stack itself. Work must build two physical power-system demonstrators — one based on PEMFC and one on SOFC technology, each rated at 100 kW or more — tested to at least TRL 6, though a Hardware-in-the-Loop system can replace one demonstrator if validated aging and malfunction models already exist. Proposals must clearly explain how they go beyond the results of four named prior EU projects (Ruby, GiantLeap, Helenus and Virtual-FCS) and identify specific technical or methodological advances, and must publish tools, methodologies and an open-access anonymised datalake for reproducible research.
